CARICOM Competition Commission Congratulates the Trinidad and Tobago Fair Trading Commission for its Decade of Service
The CARICOM Competition Commission (CCC) congratulates the Trinidad and Tobago Fair Trading
Commission (TTFTC) as it celebrates its 10th anniversary. The TTFTC has been dedicated to promoting fair
competition and protecting consumer interests in Trinidad and Tobago since being established in 2014.
Although the Fair Trading Act (FTA) was only fully proclaimed in 2020, the Commission has made
remarkable progress in fostering a competitive market environment.
The TTFTC hosted a seminar that brought together businesspersons, lawyers, senior government officials,
and other stakeholders to commemorate the milestone. The event highlighted the functions, rationale, and
successes of global and older competition authorities, offering valuable insights to the attendees.
A key highlight of the seminar was the participation of Commissioner Emalene Marcus-Burnett from the
CCC. Commissioner Marcus-Burnett congratulated the TTFTC and emphasised the evolving nature of anticompetitive behaviours, such as innovative non-tariff measures like labelling requirements. Her remarks
underscored the importance of continuous vigilance and adaptability in addressing these challenges.
The TTFTC’s commitment to fair competition over the past decade has been instrumental in promoting
economic efficiency and consumer welfare in Trinidad and Tobago. The foundation laid in these ten years
promises continued success and growth.
Congratulations to the TTFTC on its 10th anniversary! The CCC looks forward to many more years of
collaboration and shared commitment to fair trade and competitive markets in the region.
