Three New Commissioners Sworn in to Strengthen Regional Competition Enforcement

Paramaribo, 24^th March 2026 – The CARICOM Competition Commission (CCC) recognises the inclusion of three newly appointed Commissioners to its Board, thereby satisfying the full complement of its members. These appointments signal an important step in strengthening the Commission’s mandate to promote fair competition and protect consumers across the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). These appointments also reinforce the institutional capacity of the Commission at a time when regional cooperation in competition policy remains critical to the effective functioning of the CSME.

The oath of office was administered by the Regional Judicial and Legal Services Commission (RJLSC) during a formal ceremony officiated by its Chairman, the Honourable Mr. Justice Winston Anderson. The ceremony underscored the importance of independent, rules-based institutions in supporting competition enforcement and advancing economic integration within the Community.

The newly appointed Commissioners are:

• Ms. Ayiesha De Coteau Sammy
• Dr. Joel Allen

They join:

• Dr. Andrew Downes (Chairman)
• Mrs. Emalene Marcus-Burnett
• Mr. Timothy Jonas
• Mr. Anthony La Ronde

The CCC looks forward to working closely with the new Board as it continues to advance its mandate under the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas.
